Secrets De Design

I also swooned when I saw this beautiful typographic poster for Designer Days 2009 just wrapping up today in Paris. I have no idea who designed the poster, but I love it! The event sounded wonderful with many design salons opening their doors and sharing secrets of their product design from an insider’s point of view. Some of the participants were Baccarat, Christofle, Kartell, Lafayette Maison, La Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, Pleyel, Dyson, Stéphane Plassier and La Suite Elle Décoration par Maison Martin Margiela.

Nice Package

Calvin Klein will launch three limited edition fragrances for spring 2009. I really dig the type treatment on the CK One & CK Be “we are one” bottles of the iconic scents, decorated with the words "we are one" written in various languages. Slated to launch in February, they will include a MP3 player-compatible speaker to tie in with the idea of music as the universal language.

Obamabats

Designer Jeff Domke created Obamabats, a  collection of 24 high-quality dingbats featuring our President-Elect and various design elements for free download and use. Inspired by the Obama graffiti and posters seen in his neighborhood of Brooklyn, this just further proves how iconic Obama is to us.

Portrait in Words

Wonderful portrait of Obama done completely in typography, in an algorithmically based word program similar to Wordle. This is it everyone, if you haven't voted yet make sure you get out there tomorrow. I'm taking a stool, an umbrella (we expect rain) and book since I expect & hope there will be long lines. 

United in Design

Men’s Vogue commissioned renowned Pentagram designer Michael Bierut to design a patriotic lapel pin which strives to reach beyond political parties. The pin is a modern typographic alternative to the flag pin. The very best part is all proceeds benefit Dog Tags, a new initiative of the charity Puppies Behind Bars. The program matches trained dogs with Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans who are injured or suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Get it here — for a deeply worthy cause!

Card Tricks

P22 type fonts held a contest back in 2004 for playing card design entries featuring type from their foundry. They have held another competition in 2008 which is has some great designs. The decks can be free with the purchase of $100 fonts or $10 per deck. I think I need to plan a poker party! (Click on image to see cards at a larger size)
