Rockin' It Mid-Century

I won’t pretend that many of us aren’t being hit hard with the economy and job situation out there. Just because we are all watching our money more carefully doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice style. I was helping out someone to find a reasonably priced Eames-style rocker when I discovered this beauty that sells for $176.00, a fraction of the cost of the original. While it might not be the exact design of the 1948 Eames RAR rocker, it certainly has eye-candy appeal and a tempting price point! Only available in white and this beautiful baby blue, get it here.

Such a Deal!

While I love the design of original Eames tables, the prices are a bit challenging in this economy. When I saw that this Eames-inspired Eliptikal coffee table from Lunar Lounge Design is on sale at $179.99 (+$62.99 S&H) for a limited time, I started trying to figure out if I have room for it. The handcrafted table is 54" long and 23" wide, and it comes in 12" or 14" high. Removable steel legs come in a chrome or semi-flat black finish. The MDF tabletop comes in white, gray, black, red, eggshell, blue, brown, orange or pink. A really fine alternative to the slightly larger original Eames version at $649!

Modern Camo

I love camo print on just about anything, in fact today I'm wearing a 10 year old camo mini skirt that I just can't get enough of. When I saw that Bape is releasing a Camo Side Chair, I really got excited. The iconic Modernica Eiffel Side Chair design comes in three Bape camo colors – green, blue and pink. The chair is a collaboration with Modernica and will come to Bape stores on September 4th. The green colorway is a Bape exclusive and the blue and pink are exclusive to Modernica.

Surf City

I am still in a state of small beach town mentality from my time in Hanalei. To help me stay in this frame of mind, I plan to venture down to Venice beach this weekend and pay a visit to Surfing Cowboys, a most inviting vintage store — fully loaded with old surfboards, mid-century furniture and objects paying tribute to surf-culture. The owners, Wayne & Donna have recently released a Surfing Cowboys signature leather sling chair, the Santa Cruz Chair, a perfect example of the spirit of southern California beach style!

Chair Crush

This iconic chair has been a favorite design of mine forever, but with the calf skin treatment I now have a very serious crush. This last December, Herman Miller released 500 limited issue Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chairs. Finished in walnut veneer with a refined cowhide covered seat and back, each chair is numbered for authenticity. To die for!!

Mid-Century Cat

This has become Jesse's yoga chair, just forget about human use. Thankfully I have two of these great chairs from my family heirlooms. I need to recover them this summer, but can't decide if I want to go with a pattern (Eames fabric?) or stay with a solid. Any suggestions?
